When you face trials and tribulations; when you are plagued by a festering thorn in the flesh, humble yourself before the Lord and, by his grace, he will lift you up.
We read in 2 Corinthians 12 how Apostle Paul explains that he was plagued by a, so-called, thorn in the flesh. We’re not sure what that proverbial thorn was, yet we read that it came from the devil. God allowed the devil to plague Paul because Paul had the tendency to become proud. So, this “messenger of Satan” was assigned to him to keep him humble.
Sometimes we Christians can become a little conceited and proud of our status as kids of the King. Sometimes we can exalt ourselves a little above the world around us because we believe we are accredited with God’s righteousness, by faith, as Abraham was. Indeed, these facts are very true. But often we open ourselves to the devil’s whiles through our pride. God forbid! May we learn, as Paul did, that when we are weak then we are strong.
James 4:10
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Paul’s thorn in the flesh made him stronger. He learned that all he needed in life was the grace of God. Jesus told him that his grace was enough for the apostle. By the Holy Spirit, Paul writes, “By the grace of God I am what I am.”
Grace is God’s doing. When you face trials and tribulations; when you are plagued by a festering thorn in the flesh, humble yourself before the Lord and, by his grace, he will lift you up. Count it joy when you fall into difficulties, knowing that the testing of your faith will make you perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
God-tracking is humbly trusting God’s sufficient grace.
