We all know first hand how much Covid 19 has disrupted our lives, and on a global scale not seen in our lifetime. It has literally wreaked havoc in every direction, but there is hope in God and the promises He has given us in Scripture. These are like a mighty sword we can wield to cut through all the uncertainty, conspiracy theories and panic.
For those who are anxious about getting infected with Covid 19, there is God’s promise of PROTECTION; for those who are infected there is HEALING; for those who are dying there is His promise of ETERNAL LIFE; and for those who are bereaved there is COMFORT.
2 Peter 1:4 tells us that God “has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
You may ask, “How can I believe in God’s promises when so many are being infected with Covid 19 and multiplied thousands are dying?”
This is valid question, especially when it comes from non-Christians. Honestly, God is the only One who can answer it, but I will share my personal perspective…
Of course, God alone determines who lives and who dies and when they die. This is what makes Him the omnipotent God we serve. However He invites us to be in relationship with Him and the only way we can do that is by faith. And faith is something that is always tested!
Stand against Covid 19 in faith
In Hebrews 11 we read how faith works. In verse 6 we see it is impossible to please God without faith, “because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Faith of course, is tested by trial, but we are promised that ultimately this testing will have eternal value.
In this chapter, known as ‘The Hall of Faith’ we read of many mighty exploits accomplished through faith by those who believed God’s promises. God calls us to trust Him, for He is unchangeable, His power is not diminished by any virus least of all Covid 19. I for one would rather die in faith believing than in fear and unbelief.
I believe you can trust in God’s promises no matter what but to do that we should see things with a much wider perspective. God promises deliverance and whether that comes now in the physical or later in the Heavenly realm I trust in Him. You can’t read Psalm 91 without being built up in your faith and we know that faith comes by hearing God’s Word.
God’s time scale is not ours. He sees things across an infinite spectrum of eternity past, present and future. He knows the number of our days and where our lives fit into His eternal plan like a stitch in some magnificent patchwork quilt. When it comes to Covid 19 we only see the current circumstances but He sees things in the light of all eternity.
So I encourage to press in to God and His Word. Let’s wield the Sword of the Spirit against Covid 19. Let’s answer this pandemic with our declarations from the Word of God! Confess His promises over your life and trust Him. Put aside your fears and respond in faith.
I personally have been greatly encouraged by reading passages of Isaiah as an antidote to the anxiety Covid 19 brings. I especially love this verse: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
And in closing, always remember the truth of Proverbs18:10: “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
