Salt of the Earth

Dear Christian stand strong in the word of God. Continue to live by biblical principles without wavering and you will be the salt of the earth, flavouring a repugnant world with the essence of God.

Salt is a valuable commodity in some cultures. In biblical times we read about the salt covenant between man and God as the Israelites covered their grain offerings in salt as a symbol of purification. In Jewish traditions, salt has been a symbol of covenant, commitment, unity, and loyalty. Salt can be used for seasoning, for sterilisation and as a preservative.

Jesus used salt, and light, as a symbol of God’s integrity and countenance in the world. As his representatives on earth, Christian believers are the salt of the earth. That is, those who acknowledge Christ have subjected themselves to God’s forgiveness and purification. By God’s word and Spirit, they themselves have been disinfected through the blood of Christ, as one might disinfect a wound with salt. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Confession and faith have instigated God’s holiness and God’s righteousness on earth through those sanctified by the blood of Jesus.

Matthew 5:13-14
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”

As salt decontaminates food and acts as a sterilisation agent, so you stand for God’s purity in your circle of influence. The world is becoming increasingly contaminated by the degradation of biblical morals and corruption in high places. Christ’s body on the earth not only seasons culture with the flavour of God’s word but it preserves the integrity of biblical ethics and standards.

So, dear Christian, stand strong in the word of God. Continue to live by biblical principles without wavering and you will be the salt of the earth, flavouring a repugnant world with the essence of God.

God-tracking is seasoning with salt.
