Going From Darkness to Light: How can we find brightness in this dark world?

How do we go from darkness to light? We live in a world that seems defined by darkness. How can we come into the light and leave the darkness behind?

And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:4 ESV

The Source of Light

God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. God is supernatural light, but He also created natural light with simply a word. If we were to say ‘let there be light’, nothing would happen, unless we flipped a switch!

If God is light, then why darkness? He knows we’re mere mortals who need sleep, so He provides darkness to make sleep easier. Even something potentially scary like darkness can be used for good by God.

How to go from Darkness to Light

Sadly, since we rebelled against God, mankind has been in spiritual darkness. Even though Jesus the Light of the world came and illuminates the world through His church, most people prefer to stay in the dark. If God has drawn us into the light, we are to call others to join us.

Once we were in darkness. Yet now, if we’ve trusted in Christ, He’s brought us into His Kingdom of light. God forbid that we should return to the darkness of sinful rebellion against Him.

‘Almighty Lord, we’re grateful that through the darkness of the cross, the light of forgiveness comes to us. Help us come into, and stay in, the light of Your love, in Jesus’ name, amen’
