Have you seen Tolkien, the Biopic about the famous British author?
Millions of people worldwide have been enthralled by the stories of JRR Tolkien. The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit books and movies have inspired generation after generation to be brave in the face of seemingly insurmountable danger and have instilled the home truth that good ultimately triumphs over evil.
Though you may not know it, Tolkien was a committed Christian and his writings promote qualities upheld by the Bible. Celebrated by all as a literary genius, he could also be described as “God’s undercover agent” delving deep into fantasy worlds to share the Gospel with those who may never put a foot inside a church. This is creative evangelism at its finest!
Now ‘the secret’ is out, with the launch of the film Tolkein the whole world can now be aware of the extraordinary witness he was and the formidable faith he held that underpinned his writing.

A life of love, courage and fellowship
As Fox Searchlight says about the movie, “Tolkien explores the formative years of the renowned author’s life as he finds friendship, courage and inspiration among a fellow group of writers and artists at school. Their brotherhood strengthens as they grow up and weather love and loss together, including Tolkien’s tumultuous courtship of his beloved Edith Bratt, until the outbreak of the First World War which threatens to tear their fellowship apart. All of these experiences would later inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.”
