“The Lord is your portion and your hope. Just like the air in your lungs sustains life, the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you and gives life to your mortal body.”
Romans 8:11
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Take a deep breath. That’s it… okay, you can breathe out now. As you took that breath, you breathed a portion of the atmosphere into your lungs. You had the same air in you as a person in a faraway land. In fact, at that moment, you had the same air in you as every person on this planet has. For all intents and purposes, the atmosphere, on the earth, is omnipresent.
When you asked Jesus into your life, you opened the door of your heart and invited him in. The moment you were born again the Holy Spirit gave your spirit new life and you became a new creation. Now, your heart (your soul and spirit) is located in your mortal body. That is to say, the Spirit of the Lord God, one with the Father and the Son, literally entered your mortal body. As the scripture says, your body became the temple of the Holy Spirit.
As you have a portion of the atmosphere in your lungs when you take a breath of air, so you have a portion of the omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent God in your mortal body, if you acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Saviour. The Lord is your portion and your hope. Just like the air in your lungs sustains your natural life, the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you and gives life to your mortal body.
The Holy Spirit is called the Pneuma in the New Testament and Ruach in the Old Testament. Both words mean breath. The breath of God is your source of life and living and he is closer to you than your own breath. Fellowship with him, walk with him, talk to him.

As the air I breathe sustains my physical body, your Spirit is the breath of God in my heart
“Dear God, thank you that you sent Jesus to die for my sin. I acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus and confess that he died and rose again to bring me life. Thank you that, when Jesus ascended, you did not abandon us on earth but poured out your Spirit on all flesh. Since I have accepted Christ as Lord, I believe your Spirit dwells in my mortal body. As the air I breathe sustains my physical body, your Spirit, the breath of God in my heart, sustains my life eternal. Lord, accept my living sacrifice in this, the temple of your Spirit on earth. Help me to feel you in me and fellowship with you every day. Amen.”
