Many would argue that it is impossible for people to move from atheism to faith in today’s hi-tech world. This is mainly because they think that science contradicts the Bible. So it’s quite something when an eminent scientist concludes that God is real. Alister McGrath, who is a professor at Oxford University, chose to experiment with the idea of God’s existence and came up with some startling conclusions. He now shares the evidence he’s compiled over many years.
Professor McGrath gained a doctorate in molecular biophysics before going on to become a leading Christian theologian. Today he is the professor of science and religion at Oxford and as the author of many academic and theological works. His books include The Dawkins Delusion and A Theory of Everything (That Matters): A Short Guide to Einstein, Relativity and the Future of Faith.
In The Dawkins Delusion, Professor McGrath takes on the famous atheist, Richard Dawkins and his much-publicised book, the God Delusion, subjecting it to rigorous scrutiny. “His exhilarating, meticulously argued response deals with questions such as: Is faith intellectual nonsense? Are science and religion locked in a battle to the death? Can the roots of Christianity be explained away scientifically?”
From atheism to faith
Alister McGrath’s latest book is an autobiography that maps his “journey from atheism to faith and how both connect with scientific discovery.” It is entitled Through A Glass Darkly, Journeys through Science, Faith and Doubt – A Memoir.
In Through A Glass Darkly he shares his story of a life spent in pursuit of truth, firstly from a scientific perspective and then from a spiritual perspective after he became a Christian. He also explains how he moved from atheism to faith while studying natural sciences at Oxford University, and how each discipline has informed the other throughout his life.
The hardback version of Through a Glass Darkly will be released by Hodder & Stoughton in September 2020.
