Be encouraged to always acknowledge the Lord and give him the credit for your performance. Seek first his kingdom principles, and he will mend that leaky purse!

Cheryl had recently been promoted to finance manager of a large leisure company with over 300 employees on the payroll. Her salary was proportionate to her senior position in the company. Married with three young children, Cheryl was the primary breadwinner in her family. As a Christian, she knew well the importance of acknowledging God in all her ways. However, as her responsibilities grew along with her income, Cheryl gradually took her eyes off her Master and began to slowly drift from God’s purposes for her life. Sadly, she no longer gave him the praise for her success but claimed all the credit herself.
1 Samuel 2:30(b)
Those who honour me I will honour, but those who despise me will be disdained.
Not long after she had received her promotion, Cheryl and her husband began to suffer marital strife. Her long hours away from home, coupled with the fact that, somehow, their combined income still did not meet the growing needs of their family, were causing conflict. Finally, Cheryl walked out, took the children and went to live with her mother. Seemingly free of the financial drain of her spouse, Cheryl hoped her financial difficulties would level off. But they didn’t. She continued to earn well, but somehow, she never had sufficient income to meet her needs. She felt as though she earned her wages only to put them in a purse with holes in it.
The people of Jerusalem had returned to their homeland after the Babylonian captivity and received the command to rebuild God’s temple. They started with gusto but, sadly, took their eyes off the goal of God’s purposes and began to feast on the fat of the land, claiming all the credit for themselves. So, God sent his man, Haggai, with a stern warning to correct the folly of their behaviour and to call them back to the job at hand – to rebuild his temple to his praise.
Have you ever been in a similar situation? I have. Perhaps you’ve had a good job and earned a reasonable wage, but still somehow seem to come up short at the end of every month. You work hard; you earn only to put your wages in a leaky purse. If that’s you, then be encouraged to always acknowledge the Lord and give him the credit for your performance. Seek first his kingdom principles, and he will mend that leaky purse!
God-tracking is being sure we never take the credit for God’s doing.

What is GodTracker?
GodTracker is a weekly e-mail Christian motivational thought, written by Dudley Anderson, based on the premise that God has a plan for our lives. His Word calls us to seek his plan by acknowledging him in all our ways and by tracking his purposes, in faith. Most of what you’ll read is based upon the author’s personal experience of tracking the plans of God.
